Kilimanjaro summit

The project

An unforgettable adventure

The ascent of Kilimanjaro was an unforgettable adventure. Every step toward the summit was a challenge, but also an opportunity to discover the majesty of nature. The changing landscapes, from lush jungles to glistening glaciers. The nights spent at altitude were magical, with stars sparkling above our heads. Finally, the summit — an indescribable moment, filled with pride. An experience that will remain etched in my memory, a testament to my ability to overcome obstacles and find beauty in challenges.

Day 1

Machame

We began our ascent of Kilimanjaro via the Machame route under clear skies and warm weather, with high anticipation for the adventure ahead. We crossed the savanna with its share of iconic wildlife, then entered the tropical forest only to endure the traditional downpour well known in this part of Tanzania.

2Day

Shira Camp

The second day led us through dense jungle to Shira Camp, where we spent our first night. The clear sky allowed us to enjoy the starry view before resting for the remainder of the night.

Lava Tower

As we climbed toward Lava Tower camp, the sunny weather and mild temperatures made the hike pleasant and allowed us to admire the Martian-like landscapes surrounding us. We then descended to Barranco Camp, through alpine moorlands, to spend the night and acclimatize further.

6Day

120 km/h at the crater

One of the shortest nights (wake-up at midnight) to tackle the final ascent. The alarm came quickly because a storm had risen during the night. Half the camp had been blown away by the winds. Our communal tent had flown off and was lost. Crossing the camp, we were met with an apocalyptic scene. Not a single tent was left standing. It was in these conditions that we had to tackle what was, at that hour, the most difficult ascent of our lives.

The wind was blowing at over 120 km/h, the temperature was -20°C. Steps were difficult, highly imprecise due to the unpredictable gusts. Each of us kept a hand on the person ahead to hold them steady in case of imbalance. The cold was intense and was beginning to seize our hands and feet.

Fortunately, the sun appeared just as we arrived at the summit crater. Incredible clarity, a view stretching as far as the eye could see. At our feet, Africa spread out endlessly; below, a gigantic glacier. Just a few more meters to reach the long-awaited summit — and at last came the crowning achievement of this week of climbing. Despite the wind and cold, the joy was intense.

Millennium · The descent

Heading to Millennium Camp, 2,000 meters lower (at 3,820 meters). A beautiful day under the Tanzanian sun, savoring the last moments on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. The weather was mild, smiles on every face with the feeling of mission accomplished.

After a good, restorative night's sleep, we began the descent toward Mweka camp under a beautiful blue sky. In a single day, we were able to revisit every type of landscape: from arid volcanic deserts to alpine forests, through tropical forests, ending in the heat of the savanna. We finally arrived at camp, exhausted but with extraordinary memories and the feeling of a mission accomplished.
